The most obvious characteristics of a Krugerrand are of course what's stamped on it by the mint- on one side you have Boer resistance leader Paul Kruger. The other side has a Springbok antelope, a national symbol of South Africa. You can also find the coins are printed in English and Afrikaans. A little more information for you serious collectors and coin geeks. There are 140 reeds on the diameter of the coin (reeds are simply the little indentations you find on the perimeter of a coin)- however most people wouldn't count every one on a 1/4 gold krugerrand!
